Kirk McGee specializes in writing comedies both the stage and screen. He was a staff writer-performer for the NYC sketch comedy group LIVING ROOM LIVE for two years, and his two man stage show, I’M WITH STUPID/STUPID’S WITH ME, penned with Dan Truman was performed at numerous theater in NYC and Philadelphia. A scene from the play was featured in the scene anthology The Best Stage Scenes of 1999 (rushed to publication in 2001.)
His most recent dark romantic comedy, ACTIVITY PLACE MATS, has been creating quite a bit of excitement both as a full-length play and a screenplay. The play has had incredible feedback from regional theaters including Two Rivers Theater Company and Playwrights Horizon. The screenplay version has placed 2nd in the 2007 Another Sleepless Night Screenplay Contest, 3rd place in the 2008 FilmColumbia Festival of Film Screenplay Contest, and reached the quarterfinals of the 2008 BlueCat Screenplay Competition.
Kirk has also written a number of one-act plays, including FOR BETTER OR WORSE, which recently was performed at the 15th Annual NYC 15-minute Play Festival where it was awarded Best Actor, Best Director, and Honorable Mention for Best Actress and Best Play at the 15th Annual NYC 15-minute Play Festival.
Kirk is currently working on a comedic murder mystery about Shakespeare clowns.
“Mr. McGee has a natural way with comedy, particularly physical & slapstick. He understands the specific rhythm... giving them distinct voices & conflicts.”
